2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Since the Jeep Grand Wagoneer perished after 29 years in 1991— with no leading redesign —Jeep has not really had a top of the line high-end SUV. Sure, the Grand Cherokee is excellent, and it is possible to get it with a variety of high-zoot high-end choices, but opulence that is accurate has not been a part of the Jeep line for more than 20 years.
Fortunately, that can change around 2019 or so, when Jeep adds a Grand Wagoneer and a Wagoneer to the top of its line, above the Grand Cherokee. That is the word from Jeep brand primary Mike Manley, who told Automotive News the Grand and Wagoneer Wagoneer will be constructed on the stage of the next-generation Grand Cherokee, but they will be more than trimming lines.
“The Wagoneer name signifies, historically, the pinnacle of premium for the Jeep world,” Manley said. “But in exactly the same manner as you may have an Overland and a Peak, you’ve got distinct trim levels. So you could envision using Wagoneer to denote an extremely superior vehicle, and it is taken by Grand Wagoneer to the next degree. If you had been to use that as your naming strategy, that is just how I ‘d use the trimmings.”
An addendum to the Automotive News post clarifies the Grand and Wagoneer Wagoneer will be different vehicles, rather than alternative bundles added to the Grand Cherokee.
If you are holding out -sided woodie station wagon, like the 1984 example demonstrated above, perhaps do not hold your breath. But as far as nameplates that are renowned we might love to see make a recovery, the Wagoneer name is on top of the list. And perhaps it ‘d be speced by us for fun, just with wood background.
